Traxxas-Sponsored Christophe Pourcel Wins 250 East Championship--again!

Houston, TX: For the second consecutive year, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas rider Christophe Pourcel has won the AMA Supercross Lites Eastern Region Championship! Although there is still one race to go in the 250 East series, Pourcel’s performance in Houston gave him an insurmountable points lead over Austin Stroupe. Stroupe had been chasing Pourcel in points, but a crash during practice resulted in a dislocated shoulder and prevented Stroupe from racing in Houston. All Pourcel had to do was finish in fourth or better to secure the Championship, but Pourcel races for the win, and did not hold back in Houston.

Pourcel began the evening by handily winning his heat race. In fourth at the first turn, second place by the next straight and in the lead on lap two, Pourcel rode away from the field to take the win. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas teammate Dean Wilson also performed well in his heat race, and moved up from fifth to third by lap three, then passed Justin Barcia to finish second when Barcia got caught up in the Tuff Blocks.

In the Main, Blake Bagget officially got the holeshot, but Pourcel passed him effortlessly before the next corner to take the lead. As Bagget and Ryan Metcalf gave chase, Dean Wilson looked for opportunities to move his KX250F into the top three. Just two laps later, Wilson did exactly that. Meanwhile, Pourcel continued to dominate the Main with his ultra-smooth “no pressure” style, and went unchallenged all the way to his fifth win of the season, his twelfth Lites career win, and his second consecutive 250 East title. Teammate Dean Wilson was assured a podium spot as he held onto third for all but the final lap of the race, when a mis-timed whoop put him over the bars. Wilson recovered in time to finish ninth. “I was so disappointed that I made that mistake,” said Wilson. “I know everyone makes mistakes, but that one hurt a little bit. I really wanted to be on the podium. Next week I want to finish with my best result.”

With the Championship title secure, Christophe Pourcel could take it easy for the final round of the series, but don’t expect to see anything less than a full-throttle performance in St. Louis. “I am really happy that I was able to wrap it up early, but next week I still want to go out with a win,” said Pourcel.
